Party Walls

Project name and description

The Party Wall etc. Act 1996 has been made to reduce the potential for conflict that could arise when undertaking works that affect another owner's property.

The Act commonly applies to loft conversions within attached properties, and to foundation works related to extensions adjacent to neighbouring properties as well as works to shared structures such as party walls, floors or chimney stacks. For more detailed guidance please refer to our Links page or contact us to discuss your queries.

We can accept an appointment from either the building owner (the party undertaking the works), for the adjoining owner (the owner of the adjacent property) or act as the agreed surveyor representing the interests of both parties impartially.

Our fees for representing an adjoining owner are normally held in the award (the agreement made by the appointed surveyors) to be the responsibility of the building owner.

We have experience with the following areas of work:

-basement extensions

-loft conversions

-development sites

-commercial and residential
